Latest from Dublin-based neo-soul and Disco funk band, Echo Fold, is new single Acceptance. Starting as a project between drummer Ross Daly and guitarist Sam O’Connor, Echo Fold was an experimental and instrumental piece. The band has now grown comfortable into its own in the realm of disco, funk and soul and have been steadily releasing singles since 2020. The rest of the band is made up of bassist Kevin Smith and vocalist Lauren McCauley and together the group has been playing a number of gigs across Dublin city and are an absolute treat live. I had the pleasure of getting to see them in action earlier this year where they completely domineered the very loud crowd with their eclectic disco sound, proving themselves to be a powerful support band in terms of hype, and a group whose sound is a very exciting offering to the existing music scene in Dublin.

Their newest single, Acceptance, fits in amongst their prior releases perfectly and shows great improvement in the quality of their releases. From the get go it leads in with trickling guitar and has a steady, languorous drum beat that holds fast throughout the track. Paired with the rhythmic melody, it makes this song a really relaxing, roadworthy tune. The mellow chorus fades in and out with the verses in a seamless transition and the layering of backing vocals lifts the track, as a whole, to a completely new level. Whether you are someone who likes to dive into lyrical composition or just feel things out with the melody, this song will work for you. The lyrics are varied and non-repetitive yet have a catchy sway to them so are a great formation for either reading through or just mindlessly listening to the movement of the sound.

The instrumentation in Acceptance remains uncomplicated throughout. This works in favour of the song as it adds to the lackadaisical tone that runs through the track. Between the drums, bass, and guitar, the vocals bring this single together by adding in some substance and nuance to the easy-flowing composition, giving it more weight.

Echo Fold is definitely a band to keep tabs on. Tonally, they provide a wide range of atmosphere and their live sets are a well-balanced blend of lively and soothing. The release of this single can only attest to their performance and song-writing capabilities. The quality of their releases has had an upward trajectory and I cannot recommend enough keeping an eye on Echo Fold for any gigs and EPs in the near future.
